Meet Eric Elias
Title: Architectural Design Support
How he describes his role: I meet with architects and engineers and help them with product recommendations, drawings, specifications, and any technical questions they have.
Tenure at CornellCookson: I’ve been here for 10 years. I started at Cornell Storefront Systems, our national account division, and was there for about eight and a half years as a Project Manager.
Most memorable/favorite project: A project in Washington that has about 15-20 doors on it. This is the first large project I’ve been involved with while in ADS for an extended period of time; it’s been close to a year, so I’m really invested. It’s fun because it’s not a cookie-cutter type project.
On his career growth: At first, I didn’t realize how much there is to learn in the industry, and every day it’s something new and it’s exciting. Researching information and providing architects with accurate details is key. I previously worked for a metal perforation manufacturer, so I had some general knowledge of security barriers and products before working at CornellCookson. After working at Storefronts for five years, I got the promotion to Project Manager. We also talked about my growth within the company, and because I have an architectural engineering degree and work with AutoCAD a lot, I mentioned that eventually I wanted to move into the ADS department, and now I’m here!
If Eric could do another job for just one day: I’d be a professional bass fisherman.
Last TV show watched: Golf.
Words of advice for people in industry: Keep an open mind. Understand that you’ll never know everything, but you can always continue to learn and grow.
Favorite desk tchotchke: My coffee cup.
Hobbies: Fishing and hunting, really anything that gets me outdoors.
Outside of work, Eric likes to: Relax. He also likes to go quad riding when it’s not too cold.
