Meet Michael Chapman

Title: Architectural Design Support

How he describes his role: I provide design support and assistance to architects, project managers, and engineers. I build strong relationships with our architects through professionalism and product knowledge, and also provide custom solutions for different kinds of applications. We’re here to answer questions via email and phone and are always available to help. Architects come to us with questions about our product, whether it’s height limitations, or maybe window or seismic questions, and we provide any assistance or CAD drawings they need.

Tenure at CornellCookson: I’ve worked at CornellCookson for 13 years. I started in the shop in the shutter guide department. I’ve worked in many other positions in the shop, ranging from specializations in our Thermiser products to service doors. I also helped out with annual inventories in the warehouse. A few years ago, I applied for a job in Sales as a Contract Fulfillment Rep for four years before my role now on the ADS Team.

Most memorable/favorite project: It was for a BMW Dealership in South Carolina. The project called for a powder coat graphic with two BMWs racing on a track. It was a challenging process, but when we were finished, the end user was extremely happy with their door.

On his career growth: I’ve worked in a lot of different departments at CornellCookson. Meeting and exceeding customers’ demands and making sure everything is perfect can be stressful at times, but I thrive on doing the absolute best to help our customers.

If Michael could do another job for just one day: I’d love to be a nurse. That’s what I went to school for originally. I was also a volunteer firefighter when I was growing up. I’ve always enjoyed helping people.

Last TV show watched: “Yellowstone”

Words of advice for people in industry: Keep an open mind. It’s amazing when everyone works together to come up with solutions – you’d be amazed with what people can create when they work as a team.

Favorite desk tchotchke: A picture of my three-year-old daughter.

Hobbies: I love hockey (go Pittsburgh Penguins!) and hunting.

Outside of work, Michael likes to: Spend time with his family and friends.
