Meet Paul Smith
Title: Architectural Product Representative for New York, Pennsylvania, D.C., Massachusetts, Maryland, and Virginia, and Director of Architectural Promotion
How he describes his roles: I schedule lunch and learns with architectural firms and chapters and help them in the design phase with specifications and answering technical questions. My roles also include the day-to-day management of our architectural groups, which means my work varies widely.
Tenure at CornellCookson: I’ve been here 21 years. I was drawn the company because of the reputation it had in the industry. I love the culture here.
Most memorable/favorite project: The Philly Eagles stadium. It was my favorite because it was large, it was pretty involved, and because I really worked my tail off to land that job. I was in the contractor’s trailer once a week to talk to him. It was a lot of fun.
On his career growth: I really enjoy my roles. They keep me extremely busy, and give me a great deal of variety.
If Paul could do another job for just one day: Playing drums in the band from his youth called Wit’s End.
Last TV show watched: “Behind Her Eyes,” my wife was watching it and I caught parts of it.
Words of advice for people in industry: Learn as much about the products as you can.
Favorite desk tchotchke: A drawing that my daughter gave to me when she was five of the two of us. She’s 28 now.
Hobbies: Biking outside, especially when the weather’s nice, and attending live events, whether that’s a sporting event or a concert.
Outside of work, Paul likes to: See his kids, grandchildren, immediate family, and friends, especially the ones that live out of state because he hasn’t been able to visit them in a while.
