Is there a difference between an industrial garage door and an overhead sectional door?

In an industrial or manufacturing setting, you have factors that help determine what type of door to specify. Roll up doors have interlocking steel slats that stay interlocked as the coil up above the door opening. A sectional garage door will have larger sections hinged together. A sectional door requires space for the door to retract upward or up and over to open the door. A commercial roll up door only needs the space above for the door to coil into. Overhead rolling doors are typically made from heavier gauge steel in 2” to 3” sections, while a sectional door average 24” per piece. The framing, or guides, that the garage door follows are manufactured with structural steel with a roll up door as compared to formed metal guides on a sectional door. Maintenance is a big difference. Overhead roll up doors require much less maintenance as most parts are stored internally. High-performance roll up doors are manufactured all the way up to 1,000,000 open and close cycles with little to no maintenance. Sectional garage doors have springs, cables and other parts that are always exposed to the elements and require ongoing upkeep. This is especially problematic in high traffic areas that require a constant opening and closing of the garage door.

When you choose a roll up door as your industrial garage door, each door is custom built to meet your exact specifications. Our standard overhead rolling doors are constructed of galvanized steel, in 18, 20, 22 or 24 gauge. Our exclusive Galvanex two-step baked-on polyester finish is available in gray, tan, white or brown, however, finishes can vary by product or steel gauge. Coiling industrial garage doors can additional be manufactured in stainless steel or aluminum.

Individual door slats can be customized with vision windows of either one-way or two-way visibility. Various perforated designs or even customized designs allow visibility and ventilation while still maintaining security and insect control.

For a polished look, adding any one of our more than 180 stock SpectraShield powder coating finishes adds aesthetic value and eliminates any need for field painting the doors. Either with a stock color or even a custom powder coat color, can help your overhead door blend seamlessly into a building design or surroundings.
