Ardence & Bloom is a luxury apartment community nestled in East Hollywood’s vibrant art and music scene. Early in the construction phase, it was determined that the eight-story building would need dependable fire and life safety products along with high cycle parking garage doors to provide an enhanced level of security for its residents.
Tom Goodwin, New Construction Manager at Commercial Door Company in Pomona, California, knew just who to turn to for these specific applications. Having been a Cookson dealer for decades, Goodwin recommended the SmokeShield® Elevator Smoke Curtain. It seals after each elevator cycle leveraging patented GuideLock™ technology, and the bold, easy-to-understand graphics make for quick operation. These elevator smoke curtains not only look smart, they effectively seal off hoistway openings and limit dangerous smoke infiltration throughout the structure.
The contractor also tasked Commercial Door Company to seal off a large mezzanine area in the event of a fire. The SmokeShield® Fabric Smoke and Fire curtain was the ideal solution, but there were two obstacles: scheduling and size. True to form, Cookson’s team was up for the challenge. At 30 feet wide, this custom-crafted curtain is the largest of its kind, the largest in the country, in fact. “We worked closely with Cookson to ensure it was sized right and installed on time,” said Tom, “And it looks great too.” SmokeShield Fabric Smoke and Fire curtain allows the guides to be directly installed to masonry or drywall construction. Additionally, the headbox can be installed flush into the soffit with the guides hidden underneath the fascia, so it can sit seamlessly in a space without detracting from the overall aesthetic.
The parking area required closures that would be able to withstand a high volume of traffic, without a lot of wearable items like springs, rollers and straps. To fit the bill, two of Cookson’s EPD 1024 million cycle service doors were installed in the garage. The doors feature a springless design, operate at 24 inches per second, and have a low cost per cycle versus other high-performance, slatted products.
Ardence & Bloom boasts the most sought-after amenities in one of LA’s most desirable neighborhoods. Cookson’s innovative closure solutions add a level of comfort, convenience, and style to its stunning spaces made for work, play, and everything in between.
